Hitch Hiking
Across
the Sahara

Robert Christopher decided to hitch hike across the Sahara desert in 1956. The Sahara is a vast desert that stretches across Northern Africa and is much larger than England. Christopher endured difficult conditions like intense heat, lack of water, and sandstorms during his journey.

Key Points:

1.He had a small tape recorder. He thought to record his last moments for benefit of those who find it.

If you were to offer a thirsty man all wisdom, you would not please him more than if you gave him a drink.

2.He came up with an idea to reach the water of well by using the tape in the recorder.

.3.They tied strands of wire with a teapot to reach the water level of the well.
4.The liquid in the teapot was like a mixture of mud and Sulphur but it was drinkable.
The collected 23 liters of water to take back to Bordj.

5.Christopher saw a small sand storm coming in his direction .Later, he found that it was
the dust blown by the 2 patrol cars that were coming to rescue them.

6.Claude Balanguernon and his friend arrived a few hours later in the jeep ,but Christopher
was missing.

7.The natives misdirected Claude and his friend and they went to Agades.

8.Claude very sensibly got in touch with Desert Patrol and they sent out a search party
to find Christopher.

9.Claude’s wisdom saved the life of Christopher and enabled the “Hitch Hiking journey
across the Sahar” to end.
